DALLAS AREA POLO CLUBS UNITE TO FORM DFW POLO ASSOCIATION

NEWS RELEASE—FEBRUARY 2023 –Several Dallas area polo clubs have united to form the DFW Polo Association, organized by Ken Mayer of the Mayer Ranch/SMU polo club with the help of Justin Powers and the United States Polo Association “USPA”, Mayer Ranch/SMU, Willow Bend, Prestonwood, Legends, Mokarow Farms, Lakeshore & Santa Anita, have united to create a greater polo experience in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with the goal of playing higher quality polo at each of their respective clubs and bringing in new players, encouraging their upward movement in the sport of polo while capitalizing Dallas/Ft.Worth’s central location, excellent weather and position as a major US market. Robert Payne, a 35-year veteran of Polo in the Dallas-area stated, “this has been a long time coming, it’s something we should’ve done years ago, I’m excited about the possibilities of what we can all do together by joining forces.” Collectively the clubs have impressive facilities including 10 outdoor polo fields, 3 covered arenas, 4 outdoor arenas, over a hundred stalls, paddocks & turn-out.  Vaughn Miller Jr, Director of operations for Prestonwood polo Club  agreed, “I have been fortunate enough to recently play at some of the top venues in the country including Aiken, Houston & Florida, I think Dallas has the potential to be on the same level”.  John Muse, who plays in the summer at Santa Barbara Polo Club concurred, “I have always believed the Dallas market has limitless potential for polo.” The newly formed association will be launching its website and hiring a manager and has plans for multiple 4-6 goal tournaments this spring and 8-goal & 4-goal in the fall along with a robust 0-2 goal Margarita/Coaching League. According to Justin Powers of the USPA, “the Chicago area did a similar thing where there were multiple successful clubs that banded together to form the Chicago Polo Association, it has proven to be a very successful model that has benefited all the clubs and made for greater polo in the Midwest United States”. Several of the Dallas Area clubs made history in 2021 by uniting to put a team in the US Arena Open Polo Championship and winning the historic tournament.

We welcome you to join us in our first year as the DFW Polo Association.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ken Mayer or your home DFW club representative.
